イントロダクション

メキシコの映像作家ツェマ・ノベーロがこの10年間、ラテンアメリカの前衛/実験的音楽プロジェクトのために制作したミュージックビデオのセレクション。作品はスーパー8、16ミリ、35ミリ、ローファイビデオなど様々なフォーマットで撮影されており、作中の音楽と同様、西洋文化や均質化された世界的価値観、拝金主義の産業が支配する今日の世界における、真のアイデンティティの追求をテーマとしている。ヴェルヴェット・アンダーグラウンドやアンディ・ウォーホルが追求した束の間の名声、ブラジルのトロピカリア運動における反体制的言説、ダン・グラハムによる80年代のビデオアートシリーズ「Rock my Religion」など、音楽にまだ前提や形式が存在した頃のロックやポップミュージックへのアイコニックな引用に溢れている。一方でこれらの映像は、世界各地の観客に向けて、現代的な視点で捉えられたメキシコの生活や地域文化を多様に映し出す。自然や都会的な建築物は、ノヴェロ自身の作家としての声とも感じられる物語の主人公のように提示される。またユーモアと詩は、映画、インスタレーション、彫刻、写真まで多岐に渡るチェマ・ノヴェロの作品群に通底する、視聴覚的なメッセージの重要な要素となっている。
